Animals in Marbella Sanctuary

AIMS Horse and Donkey Campaign

Tension rises in Mijas between donkey taxi owners and animal rights protesters

At Aim Sanctuary we stand firmly against the use of Horse and Donkey Taxis across Ándalucia. This practice is no longer popular and many tourist destinations are favouring the use of eco friendly TukTuks instead.

Far too often we have seen Donkeys and Horses confined to areas in full sun, tied up for hours on end being forced to work in extreme temperatures in clear violation of animal welfare guidelines. There are many videos that have been widely circulated of Donkeys and Horses collapsing of exhaustion, heat stroke and dehydration. We’ve also seen heartbreaking footage of animals buckling under the weight of heavy tourists and being dragged and beaten to provide tourist experiences.

On 22nd August 2024 Aims joined the community protest with other animal welfare activists in Mijas Pueblo to express our strong opposition for the cruelty the Mijas Donkeys endure on a daily basis.
