Animals in Marbella Sanctuary

Our Story

The AIMS team

The Aims team have worked for a long time in various aspects of animal rescue and animal welfare. Over the past few years running one of Andalusia´s largest animal shelters we have learned that there is a quality of care which is difficult to provide due to the sheer volume of animals arriving and resources being low. This is a common theme across shelters in Europe and beyond. Animal Shelters do a great job of providing a roof, meals, water and for the lucky ones - some exercise and human interaction. But sadly most shelters are heartbreakingly full up resulting in the animals and their carers becoming increasingly stressed. What is missing is peace - a safe space in a calm environment for animals to recuperate, rehabilitate and recover where necessary. Speaking from experience - this is almost impossible to provide in large animal shelters as there is sadly not the time or infrastructure to help each and every animal to fulfil their individual needs.

This is where we aim to make a difference - one step at a time, with a view to finding the right place for each animal, taking our time to observe and learn about them in a calm environment before they are placed with a family. Every animal that is abandoned has different needs and sometimes these are overlooked in a busy shelter environment. It can be almost impossible to know how an abandoned animal will develop once adopted and occasionally traits can be missed in busy kennels. Our team have spotted various problems with shelter life and our aim is to assist busy protection kennels and help find solutions. By creating Aims we hope to provide an important stepping stone for animals on their path to a better life.

Our virtual sponsorship programme makes a huge difference to the lives of animals, therefore our platform is not only for the animals under our care but we are also providing much needed support for animals in partner organisations that may not have an immediate chance of being rehomed. We know from our own experience how quickly a shelter can become swamped by medical bills, running costs and maintenance needs, that’s why our main focus is quality care with assistance going directly to the animals that need it the most.

Together our team is harnessing our individual aims in the hope to make a real difference both within our municipality and beyond.
